Pat Graney, Holly Batt win big at The Bessies for Girl Gods!

Miami Light Project 2016-2017 Contemporary Performance Series guest artists Pat Graney and Holly Batt took home Bessie awards last night for their work on Girl Gods. 

Director, Pat Graney, was awarded a Bessie for Best Production “for a visually stark and surreal depiction of the emotions, strength, and rage of generations of women and girls struggling under the constraints of society’s image of what it is to be female.”

Holly Batt won for Outstanding Visual Design “for creating an immersive and interactive environment of boxes that metamorphosed in tone and purpose, from towering backdrop to dresser drawers to ritual containers for Pat Graney’s Girl Gods. ”

ABOUT PAT GRANEY

The Pat Graney Company, incorporated in 1990, has toured to most major American cities as well as internationally to Japan, England, Scotland, Germany, Singapore, Chile and Brazil.  Seattle-based choreographer Graney received numerous Choreography Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as from Artist Trust, the Washington State Arts Commission, the NEA International Program, the National Corporate Fund for Dance and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.    In 2008/09, Ms. Graney received both a US Artist Award and the Alpert Award in the Arts/Dance.  In 2011, Ms. Graney was selected as one of two artists to receive an ‘Arts Innovator’ Award from Artist Trust and the Dale Chihuly Foundation. In 2013, Ms. Graney was one of 20 Americans selected to receive a prestigious Doris Duke Performing Artist Award.


ABOUT THE BESSIES

Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, the NY Dance and Performance Awards have saluted outstanding and groundbreaking creative work by independent dance artists in NYC for over 30 years. Known as “The Bessie” in honor of revered dance teacher Bessie Schonberg, the awards were established in 1983 by David White at Dance Theater Workshop. They recognize exceptional work in choreography, performance, music composition and visual design.
